Estimation of a Solar Cell Area Using Camera Image

Project for undergraduate students.

To compare the performance of different cells, one usually calculates the relative values, i.e. current per unit area, or resistance of a unit area. Therefore it is important to know the area of a cell precisely. Although, it is not a problem in mass production, where all the cells are built on identical wafers with a known area, it can become problematic in the lab environment, where one often works on the samples with irregular shape.

The goal of this project is to develop a method and design a system to estimate the area of a solar cell by its camera image. One can choose his or her favorite image processing tool.
