Research Experience for Undergraduates Starts

On June 18 twenty undergraduate students from around the country gathered to work in the silicon pilot line. The students have the task of increasing solar cell efficiency on the line by 1-2 percentage points. In industry, this level of improvement is the difference between profit and loss for a company with a production line.

The group dvided into six focus teams to improve sections of the line: creation of robust and repeatable firing recipe for the belt furnace, forming gas anneal, phosphorous diffusion to improve emitter satuaration current, emitter etch back, texturing of mono silicon, mono vs multi diffusion and sustainability.

Final presentations will be at a special poster session on July 20th.
